The Practice Nurse Program aims to provide education and support to the 190 Practice Nurses in general practice in the ACT. We provide support to nurses who are new practitioners or those who are new to general practice, as well as providing ongoing support for nurses currently working in the field, in response to identified learning and development needs. This support is provided in one-on-one sessions, as well as through regular network meetings that provide opportunities for continued professional development to increase knowledge, develop clinical skills, and enhance the role of nurses in general practice. A self-directed competency training program for nurses working in general practice is currently under development which will allow nurses the opportunity to experience working in the sector.
