The ACT Regional Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan (the ACT Plan) was developed in partnership by key mental health stakeholders in the ACT and informed by consultations with the ACT community. The ACT Plan informs integration of the ACT mental health system and coordinated funding of services through seven key focus areas and underpinned by the vision of ‘a kind, connected and informed community working together to promote and protect the mental health and wellbeing of all’. The key values of the ACT Plan are quality, equity, recovery, safety, respect and hope. The ACT Plan is guided by the principles of person-centred care, integration, collaboration, co-design and continuous improvement, and provides a framework to work towards improved mental health outcomes for people in the ACT.
In the second year of implementation of the ACT Plan, partner organisations have successfully progressed a collaborative commissioning approach to the implementation of mental health services in the ACT region. Through this approach, a new Safe Haven service was collaboratively commissioned and established. Other services established under the guidance of the ACT Plan Steering Committee included a Head to Health Centre and Pop-Up Clinic. The ACT Plan was also published in an Easy English version this year, to ensure that it is available and accessible for all. The Steering Committee has also continued to prioritise workforce development, integrated care and services, early intervention, reducing barriers to access, suicide prevention and postvention, and co-ordinated care that is responsive to people’s broader health and social needs.
