To provide effective care to the First Nations communities in our region, it is essential that primary care services are culturally safe spaces and that primary care professionals are competent in delivering culturally appropriate services.
Capital Health Network in partnership with Coolamon Advisors provides Cultural Awareness Training for primary health care providers biannually.
This training explores the importance of cultural safety in improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes for patients who attend mainstream primary health care services. It provides information and opportunity for discussion around strategies for implementing culturally safe health care practices, including improving patient access to and experience of mainstream general practice.
