Position Description
This is a rare opportunity for a clinically active General Practitioner (GP) to trial an important position to assist ACT Health interface optimally with general practice. This position works closely with the Chief GP and Primary Care Advisor to provide effective, timely advice and briefings to the Director General, Deputy Directors General, Executive and management on matters related to general practice and primary health care services. The Primary Care Policy advisor’s role will focus on the development and review of policy, programs, and services that effect or interface with primary care.
The role will focus on the development and review of policy that effects or interfaces with primary care and is a key link between ACT Health and Capital Health Network, the broader primary health care and GP community.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check
- Be registered with AHPRA without conditions as a Medical Practitioner in Australia and hold current Vocational Registration as a General Practitioner. Applicants must have current and ongoing experience in General Practice.
Note: This is a temporary part-time position available 13 January 2025 until 18 April 2025 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months. This position is part-time at (20:00) hours per week and the full-time salary noted above will be pro-rata. Appointment may be made on suitability of Expression of Interest and curriculum vitae only.

Practice Description
The Office of General Practice and Primary Care (OGPPC) works within the ACT health system connecting policy and general practice with research and education to improve primary care.
The OGPPC ensures that general practice is represented in the development of local and national policy and informs the Directorate’s whole of health system approach. The Chief GP & Primary Care Advisor plays a major role in bridging community general practice with the ACT health system. The OGPPC sits within OPLE and has strong links across the Directorate, with the GP Liaison teams in both ACT hospitals, and with the Capital Health Network. The OGPPC supports education on primary care in the medical school, junior doctors, the GP training program, and local GPs. The OGPPC administers ACTHD programs supporting education in general practice and the Peter Sharp Scholarship program.
The OGPPC works together with the Australian National University School of Medicine and Psychology (ANUSMP) to deliver education on general practice, consultation skills, professionalism, evidence-based medicine and support teaching on indigenous health in the MChD program as well as coordinating GP placements within the Medical School. We provide research pathways for GPs, GP Registrars, PhD and ANU medical students. Current research projects explore various aspects of child health (utilising ACT Kindergarten Health Check data), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and health service delivery and design.
